In an effort to facilitate the daily commuters, the Punjab government has set up 26 new bus stand shelters on the canal road. Punjab Transport Minister Muneeb Sultan Cheema inaugurated modern bus stands. The opening ceremony for the inauguration was held at the campus bridge bus shelter.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, the Transport Minister informed that the Punjab Transport Corporation has started construction of 200 modern bus shelters and 600 flag points in the city under the Annual Development Program (ADP) 2022-23 at a cost of 208 million rupees. Mind you, each bus stop shelter costs Rs. 936,000.
He also added that 26 new bus stands, shelter and 52 flag poles installed on the canal road are the first phase of the scheme. He said that the first phase is being completed by the Lahore Development Authority after a tender and it shows the assurance of the Punjab government to provide travel facilities to the public.
The Kalma underpass is closed due to construction
Lahore City Traffic has announced that the Kalma underpass to Liberty Market is closed. The step was taken due to the construction of underpass remodeling of Central Business District (CBD) Punjab Kalma.
Police advised commuters to take an alternate route from Canal and Jail Road to approach Liberty Market and Main Boulevard, Gulberg. It means if you are coming from Barkat Market towards Kalma Chowk, don’t use the underpass. Instead, take a left onto Ferozepur Road and then take a U-turn from Canal and reach Liberty Market via Gaddafi Stadium.
Alternative routes from Kalma Chowk
People going from Barkat Market to Liberty Market should take a left from Kalma Chowk, take a U-turn from Muslim Town Morr and reach Liberty Market via Gaddafi Stadium.
Similarly, the traffic coming from Model Town for Liberty Market will also go straight to Muslim Town Morr, take a U-turn and reach the market through the stadium.
And commuters coming from Firdaus Market want to go to Liberty Market or Main Boulevard, Gulberg, via Hussain Chowk.
