Islamabad, Punjab schools, colleges reopen amid rumors of more holidays

Despite the prevailing cold, the academic process in schools and colleges of Islamabad and Punjab resumed today, with students returning to classes with heavy hearts.

Over the weekend, rumors on social media platforms claimed that the Federal Ministry of Education had extended the closure of schools and colleges in Islamabad beyond January 7. However, the ministry was quick to debunk the fake news.

Initially, the Ministry, on December 13, had announced the closure of schools and colleges from December 26 to 31. On December 29, the Ministry extended the holidays in public and private educational institutions in Islamabad till January 7.

On the other hand, schools and colleges in Punjab also opened today. Last week, media reported that the Punjab government had extended winter vacations in schools and colleges.

However, the School Education Department (SED) and Higher Education Department (HED) refuted such stories and clarified that schools and colleges will reopen on January 9.

Both SED and HED had initially notified the closure of schools and colleges from December 24 to 31. The academic process was to resume on January 2. However, due to the cold weather, the holiday was extended until January 7.
