KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Sindh Chapter have agreed to work as coalition partners for the election of Mayor Karachi, ARY News reported on Saturday.
According to details, PML-N Sindh Chairman Shah Muhammad Shah made the announcement during a press conference in Karachi along with Sindh Labor and Manpower Minister Saeed Ghani.
Speaking to reporters, Shah Mohammad Shah assured that PML-N will fully support Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in the mayoral election in Karachi.
He said that both political parties jointly participated in the last local government elections in a number of city union committees as this alliance will continue in the upcoming by-elections and general polls in the province.
On his part, Saeed Ghani said that it is right for every party to form a coalition to elect the mayor, however, as the single largest party, the mayor should be from the Pakistan People’s Party.
He said that the PPP had a desire to take the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) with it as the people of Karachi had also restored confidence in the JI. “We need to work together to serve the people of Karachi in the best possible way,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to the PML-N for supporting the PPP for the upcoming city mayoral elections. Ghani hoped that the PPP would also get support from other political parties for the mayoral elections.
It may be noted that Pakistan Peoples Party won the highest seats in the second phase of Sindh LG elections, especially in Karachi and Hyderabad.
In Karachi, the party position released by the ECP showed the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) with the highest number of 93 seats in the Karachi division after the LG elections.
Meanwhile, according to unofficial results of all 155 UCs, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) secured 98 seats to become the single largest party to nominate a mayor of Hyderabad.
