Sony Honda Mobility’s EV with built-in PlayStation 5

Sony and Honda join hands to revolutionize the concept of in-car entertainment. The two giants released a prototype, Afeela, of their brand new vision that is set to compete with Tesla. We’ve already covered the Afeela reveal in detail, but today we want to talk about one of its notable features.

At CES 2023, Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) revealed that the Afeela, their upcoming EV, would have a PlayStation 5 built into it for entertainment purposes. The idea is surprisingly not new, as Tesla has already announced something similar. However, the idea of having your own PS5 in your EV sounds crazy. It shows how the concept of in-vehicle entertainment is being redefined and opens up possibilities for integrating the metaverse into different products.

Yasuhide Mizuno, president of the joint venture, said they aim to create “a vehicle that will serve the entertainment and network that they would like to offer.” not only is such integration possible. However, it will go further in the future! Only the concept car was revealed at CES 2023 and the actual vehicle will be released in 2025.

Afeela – Joint EV by Sony & Honda

At CES 2023 in Las Vegas, Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) unveiled a prototype under the banner of its new brand, ‘Afeela’.

According to reports, Afeela’s electric car will compete with the likes of Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Audi and BMW in terms of price, performance and technology. He further informed that Sony will work on the car’s sensors, UI and displays, while Honda will handle the mechanical development.

Sony Honda Mobility CEO Yashuhide Mizuno told the show:

“Afeela represents our idea of an interactive relationship where people feel the sensation of interactive mobility and where mobility can sense and understand people and society using sensing and artificial intelligence technologies.”
