ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan announced on Monday that local government polls will be held in Punjab in the last week of April 2023.
Punjab provincial election commissioner Saeed Gul Mohmand reiterated the need for local body polls to be held next spring in a press conference, accusing provincial authorities of using tactics in a desperate bid to push for elections.
The Punjab Election Commission has called the electorate delimitation authority, saying these constituencies have been created under the Local Self-Government Act passed by the Punjab government, advising critics to approach the relevant forum.
He cited the ongoing propaganda against the election watchdog by the PTI-led provincial government and hinted that there would be no further delay in the local body elections.
Mohmand went on to say that the preliminary constituencies have been completed and anyone who has an objection can approach the relevant authority by January 23.
Recently, the ECP also announced that LG polls in Karachi and Hyderabad will be held on January 15.
